Last month, I told you how we beat the odds and had this amazing day of snow; remember, I live in central Texas—a dusting every few years is a big deal to us. Two days ago, we had a snowstorm that blew the one last month out of the park. And with it came some unexpected challenges.
Painting can be a fun way to relax. Spreading acrylics all over the canvas. Swirling two colors together. There’s just something so satisfying about that. But at the same time, it can also be a cause of great anxiety for me.
The Unicorn is a relatively minor character in Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. He’s only in one scene that’s no more than a few pages long. But he says something quite remarkable to Alice: “If you believe in me, I’ll believe in you. Is that a bargain?”
Do you ever get the feeling that you’ve missed something? That it’s slipping through the cracks to the realm of the forgotten? The abyss of nothingness? Pretty shocking statement to come from a writer, huh? Wait a sec, aren’t writers supposed to be readers? Yes, and that includes me. I just go at the tortoise’s pace rather than the hare’s.
In October of last year, I was finally ready to query my manuscript. At this point, it had gone through two editors, eleven versions, numerous people in critique groups, and more hours than I care to count. Needless to say, it’s been through the fire but (hopefully) came out in its purest form. And while I wait with bitten fingernails to hear back from agents, project number two must begin… Grab cheeks and queue Macaulay Culkin’s character in Home Alone—AAHHH!!!

I put off starting a blog for a long time. One reason is I wondered if I’d be able to keep up with it (we’ll find out soon enough). Another reason is content. Would I have anything worthwhile to say? And even if I do, what if I can’t think of a topic on any given day? Moment of honesty: I actually have that worry every single week.
