Welcome! If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re looking for encouragement of some kind. I hope this doesn’t disappoint. I created this page in August 2025 as an ongoing resource for Tommy, my oldest, who enters his first year at VMI (Virginia Military Institute) this month, which is no ordinary journey.
VMI students don’t have it easy—especially the first years, which are known as “rats” for the first six months or so. They are physically, mentally, and emotionally put to the test—and for good reason: they’re being trained to be our country’s next leaders. They need to be tough.

But even the toughest person needs encouragement. A cheerleader. A reason to keep going. My blog posts going forward are with this in mind. For ease, I’ll categorize and attach a link to the articles. In the beginning, the list will be short, but it will grow over time.
