Hello, friend. It’s been a while. A long while. The last time I posted anything was the beginning of 2024 right after my breast cancer scare. Not too long after that, I had a pinched nerve that left me incapacitated for about two months. Then Thomas had his own cancer scare—thankfully, like mine, it ended up also being benign. As the holidays in the latter part of 2024 approached, I was ready to put the year of unfathomable challenges behind us and welcome a new year with a fresh start. Little did I know they were only a warmup for what was to come.

The House Always Wins

Thomas recently reminded me of a popular saying in Vegas: “The house always wins.” Basically, it means “the house” (casino owners) set up their games so the casino will always net a profit. Yes, people do win money, but the vast majority leave with their pockets substantially lighter. Would you like to know who else works in a similar fashion? Answer: Hays County, Texas.

For the record, I did ask my attorney if he’s okay with me blogging about this. His answer, “Yes, and make sure to send a link to your congressman.”

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I last posted. It wasn’t a planned sabbatical (okay, it wasn’t actually a true sabbatical, but that’s such a cool word!), but it was something needed. Sometimes, when I get overwhelmed or overloaded, my brain shuts down, and this time around, I didn’t have the energy to restart the parts that went on a break. It Can’t Rule Over Me

I used to love it when it rained. The soft sound of drops coming down and hitting the trees, leaves, and grass. The clink, clink it would go when it hit metal. There’s something comforting being cozied-up inside and hearing the delicate patter outside. Actually, I used to love to go out and walk around in the rain, only coming in when my hair and clothes are soaked. All that changed one night in May of 2008.
